Joydeep is the recipient of many awards since his childhood including the Govt. of India Talent Search Scholarship. In 1978, he was awarded the first Prize in the Instrumental Group of All India Radio Music Competetion at the age of only 15 years. In December 1979, he obtained the "Sangeet Kriya Visharad" Diploma from Saurav Academy Board, Calcutta and was awarded Gold Medal and Scholarship as the best candidate of the year in all groups. In 1980, he got the title of "Sangeet Praveen" (M.Mus.) from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad and stood first in first Class along with four Gold Medals. In 1984, Joydeep graduated from Rabindra Bharati University, Calcutta with honours in Instrumental Music. In the year 1991, he also got the title of "Surmani", from Sur Singar Samsad, Bombay. In April 1992, he has been awarded fellowship by the Govt. of India under the "Scheme for the award of fellowships to outstanding artistes in the Country".
